Carson Palmer doesn’t know when he’ll return

Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer was tentatively expected to play in yesterday’s game against the New York Giants, but his appearance was contingent on his ability to throw the ball during pre-game warm-ups. Unfortunately, he could not perform at a satisfactory level and was placed on the inactive list after being a true game-time decision with somewhat conflicting reports predicting his status. Palmer should be able to play in next week’s big game against the rival San Francisco 49ers, but his status should still be regarded as up-in-the-air early on.

  • According to the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers, Palmer stated that he isn’t sure when he’ll be back, thus affirming his status as a toss-up for the 49ers game. Palmer said, “They said my shoulder was stretched out and I landed on the nerve, shut the nerve down. It’s just one of those things you’ve just go to wait and hope it wakes up. There’s no, ‘it needs 48 hours. It needs six days, it needs 12 days. You just don’t know.”

The veteran QB described the nerve injury, which he suffered on a scramble during the team’s comeback win on Monday Night Football in Week 1, in his throwing shoulder as a nerve in “deep sleep”. It’s a concerning issue for the Cardinals, who won’t be able to get away with another awful performance from Drew Stanton, who was completely inaccurate in yesterday’s win over the New York Giants. The Cardinals won on the strength of a big rushing day from Andre Ellington, stout run defense, and a huge +4 turnover battle victory.
