Houston Texans C.J. Fiedorowicz day-to-day but will ‘probably’ play

Houston Texans rookie tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz is a player to watch this season, even if he doesn’t receive many reps with Garrett Graham and Ryan Griffin also vying for snaps on a team whose identity is on the ground with elite workhorse back Arian Foster. But that’s also precisely why Fiedorowicz is such an interesting rookie at the tight end position, because he was primarily a blocker during his days with the Iowa Hawkeyes in college and should theoretically be the best blocker on the Texans.

  • Fiedorowicz suffered a foot injury, missed every day of practice last week, and he was ruled out for the Texans victory against the Oakland Raiders. Per Texans official site beat writer Deepi Sidhu, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien stated that Fiedorowicz is “day-to-day” but will probably play this week against the New York Giants.

I wouldn’t expect Fiedorowicz to garner many targets at all as a rookie, since Graham is the reliable vet and Griffin is the athletic TE who can play in the slot. The Texans aren’t running a creative offense with game manager Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, but I’m still hoping we can see Fiedorowicz’s blocking, even if his solid pass-catching skills likely won’t be on display until next season.
