Vernon Davis says he feels ‘really good’

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is highly questionable for this week’s big game against the rival Arizona Cardinals, as he suffered an ankle injury in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears after catching three passes to bring his season haul up to seven. Davis never practiced at all this week, but he actually has a legit shot at playing, though he is still a full-blown game-time decision. Fantasy owners need to monitor his status as closely as possible, though Davis has made some good progress since being seen wearing crutches earlier in the week.

  • According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick, the star TE stated that his ankle feels “really good” at this point in time, “It’s feeling really good. I just kind of banged up my ankle a little. I’m feeling great right now; we just have to take it nice and slow.”

“Really good” is a very relative descriptor, especially when you consider just how tough of a player Davis is. Fellow TE Vance McDonald stated that Davis “looked really good” (there’s “really good” again) today when catching passes from the JUGGs machine, but, of course, the caveat here is that he didn’t put in a real practice.

If Davis can suit up, then he can still be a significant factor, especially in the red zone. But if he can’t suit up, then it could be the Derek Carrier show with McDonald, who also picked up an injury last week, joining Davis on the game-time decision list.
