This could be bad. San Diego Chargers talented running back Danny Woodhead has been carted off the field early in today’s game against the 2-0 Buffalo Bills with an unknown injury, and several players on both teams, including Bills veteran RB Fred Jackson, surrounded him as he was loaded onto the cart. Jackson is probably familiar with Woodhead from their AFC East battles, and it’s always nice to see that kind of sportsmanship.

It’s not nice to see someone carted off with an injury, especially when the players look very concerned. This could end up being a false alarm, but Woodhead seems to have suffered a rather significant lower-leg injury.
The Chargers are already without feature back Ryan Mathews for four weeks after he suffered a sprained MCL in last week’s upset victory over the Seattle Seahawks, so it’s going to be the Donald Brown show until one of them comes back. We’ll keep a close eye on Woodhead’s status, and the fan favorite RB has been a key cog in the Chargers offense, relieving pressure off of Philip Rivers with his clutch pass-catching ability out of the backfield.
Brown looked like a surplus free agent signing this offseason, but the injuries to Woodhead and Mathews have made him the clear starter right now. He is definitely capable of leading things, and he’s a solid pass-catching back to boot.
