Arian Foster a game-time decision, John McClain would be ‘surprised’ if he plays
Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster has been overworked through the first two games of the regular season, as new head coach Bill O’Brien has always wanted to make him the bellcow back in the running and passing game. It’s understandable that O’Brien would want two go with the ground-and-pound with veteran game manager Ryan Fitzpatrick (he used to be a gunslinger, but O’Brien has made him tone it down in an offense that includes Foster, Andre Johnson, and DeAndre Hopkins), but he clearly didn’t learn a valuable lesson from Gary Kubiak, who overworked his star back to the point where it caught up with poor Foster last season (he missed half of the year with a severe injury).

Well, it looks like the ridiculous workload has caught up to Foster, because he isn’t expected to play in today’s game against the New York Giants. In fact, the Houston Chronicle’s excellent John McClain tweets would be “surprised” if Foster plays today. Why? Hamstring injuries, as Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. has quickly found out, are incredibly tricky and easy to aggravate. If the Texans rush him, then they risk him aggravating that injury, and they simply can’t afford to lose the focal point of their offense for a lengthy spell of time.
When Foster was first listed questionable on the injury report with a hamstring injury, it raised some eyebrows. We knew he was dealing with some sort of ailment, but, since he was limited at practice all week, it didn’t seem like something serious. Now, it looks like there’s a good chance Alfred Blue gets the start and Foster sits this one out on the inactive list.
