Kansas City Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles doesn’t actually have a high-ankle sprain, as head coach Andy Reid hinted at following the Week 2 gam against the Denver Broncos, but he still doesn’t seem likely to play in today’s matchup against a talented Miami Dolphins squad. After reporting earlier today that Charles has a “real chance” at playing since his injury is closer to a “bruise” and not a high-ankle sprain, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Charles is not expecting to be out there today. Rapoport adds that it “looks like” Knile Davis will lead the Chiefs running game.

That said, it’s still worth monitoring Charles’s status, because he hasn’t been ruled out yet and has an outside chance of suiting up. He’s still game-time decision, because Rapoport reports that he will test out his ankle before the game starts. Fantasy football owners, of course, shouldn’t feel confident playing either Davis or Charles, but Davis might actually be the better play. If Charles plays, then playing either of them is a risk (unless if your RB depth stinks), because Davis should still siphon touches away from a playing-through-the-pain Charles.
Last season, Jamaal Charles was so instrumental to the Chiefs success as the league’s best turnaround team that he received some MVP talk, but it hasn’t been a dream start to the season for the superstar back and fantasy stud. He was criminally underused in Week 1, and he couldn’t have a big day against the Broncos due to this ankle ailment; hopefully the injury woes stop here for one of the league’s most talented players.
