Minnesota Vikings ‘love’ Jerick McKinnon

The Minnesota Vikings are trying to see which running back will be the best replacement for superstar RB Adrian Peterson, who probably won’t play another snap this season and is at risk of never playing in this league again. Based on his age, salary, and indictment, it looks like Peterson may never play another snap with the Vikings after being the clear face of the franchise before word of his indictment for child injury spread.

  • Jerick McKinnon is an intriguing rookie running back with impressive athletic tools that make up for his lack of experience, but he’s still locked in a battle with the plodding Matt Asiata to become the leader of the committee. Asiata is a very “meh” RB, but you know what you are going to get from him, especially when it comes to goal-line plays.

I’m sure most people would like to see the ridiculously athletic McKinnon take the Vikings running back gig and never let it go, because he and Cordarrelle Patterson would form an incredibly deadly duo of explosive skill position players on offense if that happens.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Vikings “love” McKinnon, and we know that they are going to give him more snaps going forward. He has a nice opportunity on his hands today against the New Orleans Saints after receiving just two carries and two receptions in last week’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots. If McKinnon can show up well, then the Vikings will be even more high on him and could reward him with snaps over Asiata.
