Detroit Lions fear ACL damage for Stephen Tulloch

facebooktwitterreddit

The Detroit Lions have two exceptional veteran linebackers patrolling the field in DeAndre Levy and Stephen Tulloch, and both players have been at their classic best so far this season, beasting on opposing rushing attacks behind the uber-talented defensive tackle duo of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Tulloch, however, could be down for some time after injuring himself during, of all things, a celebration following the sack. The injury did not look good at all when it happened, but we still don’t have much clarity on the exact nature of his injury, especially since he came back into the game for one more play and downplayed the effects of the injury.

  • Per a source close to FOX Sports’s Mike Garafolo, however, the Lions are worried that Tulloch suffered some ACL damage, and they will, as expected, take him in for an MRI today to assess the damage. At worst, this could be a season-long injury, or it just could be a false alarm. As of right now, we have no idea what’s up with Tulloch.

Garafolo notes that Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, who is exactly what you would call a “player’s coach” and a “good guy”, supported his star linebacker by stating that he doesn’t hold anything against Tulloch for celebrating. I mean, it would be ridiculous to criticize his LB for such a fluky incident, and, as Caldwell stated, it’s great to see players, especially leaders on defense, celebrate; it’s contagious.

Hopefully Tulloch isn’t bounced out for a lengthy spell, because he’s an important player who is fun to watch, and he already has 2o tackles and two sacks this year (his range and downhill style allow him to rack up tackles).
