Russell Wilson better than Andrew Luck, according to Chris Harris
Although the Denver Broncos lost to the Seattle Seahawks again in yesterday’s Super Bowl rematch, both teams played in an epic battle that would have been more deserving of Super Bowl status. Peyton Manning’s epic drive allowed the Broncos to keep the game alive by sending it to overtime, but Russell Wilson had a classic, clutch drive (which isn’t a surprise given his poise, accuracy, and top-flight decision-making skills) that was capped off by a fabulous Marshawn Lynch touchdown run (purely “Beast Mode” right there).

Wilson finished with a 24-34-285-2-1 line against a much-improved Broncos defense, and the level of composure he shows in the pocket is absolutely extraordinary and just downright scary when you take his rushing ability into account. He’s certainly earned the respect of Denver Broncos star slot corner Chris Harris, who was responsible for Wilson’s lone blemish (an interception), and faced him for the first time after tearing his ACL before the Super Bowl (well, before the AFC Championship, too).
Harris stated that he believes Wilson is better than Indianapolis Colts star QB Andrew Luck, whom the Broncos faced and defeated in Luck’s near-comeback effort after losing to the Colts last year. Luck and Wilson were in the same draft class but had very different draft statuses, yet both are often in the discussion as the fifth-best QB in the league (I’d take Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan over them, though).
Anyway, here’s what Harris said about taking Wilson over Luck, via ESPN, “He’s the best quarterback we’ve played so far. I don’t know why they keep saying Andrew Luck is better than him. He’s not better than Russell Wilson.”
I think it’s a close call, but I would take Wilson. Both are extremely athletic and have strong arms, though Luck possesses an even bigger cannon. Both are smart and exceptional leaders, but the difference is that Wilson is more accurate and makes less mistakes (interceptions). Luck’s decision-making, contrary to what some believe, still needs some work, and Wilson is the better QB statistically when looking at efficiency numbers such as yards per attempt. Luck has the potential to be better, but Wilson also has plenty of potential and, based on what he’s already proven, he’s the better QB.
In each of the past two seasons, Wilson has a higher yards per attempt, better completion percentage, more touchdowns, and less INTs than the former No. 1 overall pick. But make no mistake, I wouldn’t want to face either of them.
