Eric Decker Injury: New York Jets WR believes he’ll play next week

New York Jets star wide receiver Eric Decker was putting together a strong Week 2 performance against the Green Bay Packers before bowing out with a hamstring injury, and he was officially listed questionable on the injury report for last night’s game against the Chicago Bears. Always expected to play, Decker did indeed suit up, but he clearly wasn’t himself out there. The hamstring impaired him, and it seemed like he suffered an aggravation of the injury before leaving yesterday’s game with just one catch for 19 yards.

  • Decker, however, states that he didn’t suffer a “setback” on his hamstring last night, and he believes that he’ll be back out there for the Jets Week 4 game against another NFC North foe in the Detroit Lions. The big free-agent signing said of the injury, via the New York Post’s Brian Lewis, “I’m just going to take it day by day. I really think with the progress I made last week and even [Monday] — I don’t call [Monday] a setback. If I keep progressing I feel like I’ll be good to go by the weekend.”

The Jets No. 1 wideout said, per Lewis, that the injury he suffered yesterday isn’t as bad, but Decker still has one less day to prepare for the Lions game. His status needs to be monitored closely, because hamstring injuries are among the most tricky and easy to aggravate. Although the Jets really do need Decker out there, rushing him back again and causing another aggravation would be much worse.
