Jeff Tedford taking another medical leave of absence
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford needed an unspecified medical procedure in late August and was thus unable to call plays in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Now 0-3 after losses to the St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons (one was a close loss, the other wasn’t so close), the Buccaneers will likely face their Week 4 opponent without Tedford on the sidelines.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Tedford will have to leave the team again, because his condition has not improved. Naturally, the Bucs want to make sure that their new OC is “completely healthy”, especially since the stress of the job can easily make things worse. Incidents involving John Fox and Gary Kubiak last year scared us all and reminded us just how much work coaches go through in the offseason and regular season to try and put a winning product on the field.
We can only hope that Tedford can experience a full recovery that comes swiftly, but the former adjective (“full”) is more important than speed. Any sort of medical situation is a scary one, and the fact that we don’t know what the former Cal head coach is dealing with adds to our worries.
