Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason Kelce is the latest crushing injury blow to the Eagles elite offensive line, which is now struggling to open up holes for supremely elusive back LeSean McCoy thanks to injuries to the likes of Evan Mathis, Kelce, and Allen Barbre (right tackle Lane Johnson’s short-term replacement). Kelce left Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins with an injury, and it was reported yesterday that he could miss two months with a sports hernia and would likely need surgery.

Well, the excellent Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Kelce did indeed go under the knife this morning at the Navy Yard to correct his sports hernia. Per McLane, Kelce currently has an expected 6-8 week timetable for his rehab, which falls right in line with what Howard Eskin reported yesterday (link above).
With Mathis on the short-term injured reserve and out until at least Week 10, the Eagles are missing two elite offensive linemen (Mathis is the best guard in the game, while Kelce is probably the league’s premier center), so they will surely feel the pain. Long-term, however, the Eagles look fine, but the running game won’t be elite without these two playing standout ball on the line.
