Dallas Cowboys Morris Claiborne will play this week

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne is on the road to being one of the most colossal busts in recent memory, as he continues to get burned with ease, regardless of the quality of the opponent. Just this past week, Claiborne was torched to no end by Austin Davis the St. Louis Rams, and it’s become a regular occurrence for the former sixth overall pick, who was once seen as a near-lock to become a shutdown corner in this league. Locking down receivers in coverage has been a rarity for Claiborne, but being locked up on the injury report has been a much more regular happenstance for a perennial disappointment.

  • Sometimes busts burst out of their shell in their third season, but we’ve seen absolutely no sign of that from Claiborne. After essentially being called out by Jerry Jones yesterday, Claiborne made matters worse by storming out of practice yesterday and simply didn’t participate after learning that the much more qualified Orlando Scandrick was named the starter opposite of Brandon Carr. Claiborne only has himself to blame, and it was incredibly classless for him to act in that manner. There’s a reason why he was benched, and he should honestly be more surprised that it didn’t happen sooner, especially with his apparent lack of accountability.

Claiborne will be punished for his actions, but it won’t be in the form of a benching this week. According to Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett stated that he spoke with Claiborne last night and will allow him to play against the New Orleans Saints. Many fans, of course, will sarcastically remark, “He sucks so much that it might be better for him not to play against Drew Brees.”

Hopefully the benching serves as motivation that finally wakes Claiborne up, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
