Arian Foster Injury: Houston Texans RB ‘day to day’
Houston Texans superstar running back Arian Foster has been utilized by Bill O’Brien just like he was during most of his time under Gary Kubiak, and that isn’t a good thing now that Foster is 28 and coming off of the first major injury of his career. It didn’t take long for the massive workload to catch up to Foster, as the bellcow back aggravated a hamstring injury and was ruled out of last week’s loss to the New York Giants after being initially listed as questionable. Foster’s injury is worse than what was initially reported, and hamstring aggravations are a serious issue for older RBs. His injury makes O’Brien look even more foolish for giving him 59 touches in two games, especially since rookie back Alfred Blue looks like a steal (he had a great game in Foster’s stead).

I should tone down my brief criticism of the new Texans head coach, though, because he likely felt forced to hand the ball to Foster more often than he should have. To be fair, Ryan Fitzpatrick can’t be the focal point of the offense, it’s better to get Foster the ball more often, and Blue isn’t a proven commodity. But still, O’Brien’s goal should be to prolong Foster’s shelf-life and not run him down even faster.
According to the Houston Chronicle’s Brian T. Smith, O’Brien stated that Foster is “day to day” after doing “some things” at practice today. He’s going to be a game-time decision this week, so it’s going to be another week of guesswork and close monitoring for Foster’s fantasy owners.
