San Francisco 49ers top cornerback Tramaine Brock was a revelation last season, and he parlayed a strong string of performances in Tarell Brown’s absence to earn a mid-season contract extension. The young cornerback has been a fast riser to this point in his career, and he took over as the team’s top corner (well, there’s still an argument between him and the underrated Chris Culliver, who has huge upside) when Brown signed with the Oakland Raiders in the offseason (it was a steal of a deal at just $5 million for one year).

Unfortunately for Brock, he’s had issues getting on the field this season, as he suffered a turf toe in the team’s opener against the Dallas Cowboys. After being listed questionable and being viewed as day-to-day, Brock missed the Week 2 and 3 games and has always looked unlikely to play this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that while Brock was able to shed his walking boot today, he is still not expected to suit up against the Eagles. At least we’re finally hearing some concrete, positive news on his status, but the 49ers will certainly miss him against a high-powered passing attack that hit up rookie wideout Jordan Matthews last week. Jeremy Maclin has been gashing foes this year, but the 49ers will have to hope that Brock can finally make his return from his turf toe in Week 5.
