Detroit Lions rule Joseph Fauria out
Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria has never been expected to play in this week’s game against the New York Jets, as he suffered an ankle injury on Wednesday at home. Fauria needed an MRI on the injury, and ESPN NFL Nation’s Michael Rothstein tweets that the team has indeed ruled him out on the official injury report, with second-year right tackle LaAdrian Waddle listed doubtful.

Fauria has caught just three passes for 49 yards this season, and his snaps will go to Eric Ebron, who has an excellent opportunity to assert himself in the Lions pass-catching hierarchy with one small mouth out of the lineup. It’s unclear how severe Fauria’s injury is, but his absence won’t matter much if Ebron can run with it at the tight end position.
Ebron is one of the most raw players in the NFL right now, but he has ridiculous upside due to his ability to be an excellent “move” tight end in this league. It’s a highly coveted position, and it led the Lions to draft him with their first-round pick. His agility, speed, and athleticism are all top-notch, but he also suffers from frustrating concentration blocks, needs work as a blocker, and can display inconsistent route-running. But Ebron is the type of exciting player who can make an impact, especially against a pass defense like the Jets.
