San Francisco 49ers star tight end Vernon Davis was listed doubtful last week and, of course, did not suit up in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Davis is dealing with a significant ankle injury, and while he has practiced every day this week, there’s still a chance he could miss Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, Davis stated that he is “day-to-day” at this point and isn’t sure if he’ll able to play against the Eagles. It’s a mildly concerning statement from one of the league’s toughest players, but he was spotted on crutches last week and, despite what some people thought, didn’t have a legit shot at playing against the Cardinals in Week 3.
Davis has seven receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns this season despite only playing in one full game, and his ankle is still bothering him despite practice statuses that would indicate the contrary. He could come down to a game-time decision, but I would tentatively expect him to play until we hear further details. Davis, Michael Crabtree, and the rest of the 49ers pass-catchers have favorable matchups against the the Eagles this week, especially since this should come down to a shootout due to the Eagles excellent offense and the 49ers ability to counter with a passing attack that can become explosive.
