Green Bay Packers Clay Matthews still expects to play
Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews suffered a groin injury in the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 3 loss to the Detroit Lions, but he’s always expected to be able to play through the pain. Nobody is surprised by this, of course, because Matthews exudes toughness and consistently has shown that he can play through injuries. It looks like this groin issue isn’t too tough to play through, though, because Matthews has been observed moving well at practice ever since returning to the practice field yesterday.

According to Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Matthews stated that he expects to play in this week’s huge rivalry game against the Chicago Bears, barring any setbacks. He added, “It feels good,” and I’m sure Packers fans are just as excited to have him in the fold ahead of such an important contest that will also have playoff implications down the road.
Matthews has 12 tackles, one sack, two passes defended, and a forced fumble so far this season, and his pass rushing prowess will definitely be needed against Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall, and the rest of the Chicago Bears offense. The Packers run defense has been a big weakness to this point, so they will also have to tighten things up against Matt Forte.
