Green Bay Packers Jeff Janis focused on getting Aaron Rodgers’s trust

Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Jeff Janis is quite honestly one of the most intriguing first-year players in the league right now, because he has an immense amount of upside as a late-round, small-school prospect. Janis flashed his potential in training camp and the preseason, so there’s plenty of talk about how he could be the next star receiver for the Packers. A seventh-round pick, Janis’s upside is seen in his speed, incredible athleticism, strong hands, and 6’3″, 219-pound frame.

  • Janis has a shot at being active for tomorrow’s huge rivalry game against the Chicago Bears, because No. 3 receiver (he’s lost the job to rookie Davante Adams in my eyes) Jarrett Boykin is questionable on the Packers injury report with knee and groin injuries after suffering an injury during a “full practice” on Thursday. Boykin is a toss-up as a game-time decision, so there’s a very real chance we’ll be able to see Janis in action (and in a big game at that).

According to Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Janis stated that his main goal is developing a rapport with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and earning the trust of the elite QB. He said, “It’s very important because if he doesn’t trust me, he won’t look my way,” Janis said. “So that’s one thing I have to show him so we can build that trust and get some balls thrown my way.”

Janis worked hard to help get that connection going this offseason, and it’s clear that Rodgers demands the best from his wide receivers. There’s a reason why he loves throwing it to Jordy Nelson, beyond the fact that Nelson is a total beast; he has complete trust in his No. 1 receiver. Rodgers won’t have that kind of trust in Janis if the rookie from Saginaw Valley does play, but I hope he still gets a chance to show off his talent if Boykin can’t go.
