Detroit Lions, Ndamukong Suh preparing for split
The Detroit Lions did their best to try and extend superstar defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh this offseason, but the touted DT’s asking price has been far too exorbitant thus far. He knows that he’ll be the highest-paid defensive player if he hits the open market, and while he likes playing for the Lions, it’s clear that his goal is to make as much money as possible. And why not? He deserves what he can get, there’s nothing guaranteed for players in the NFL because of injuries, and this will be the biggest payday of Suh’s career. It’s telling that he fired his old agent despite him netting Suh a rookie contract that was even more whopping than usual, and it’s starting to become clear that the Lions won’t be able to keep him around despite their best efforts.

Per sources close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are preparing for Ndamukong Suh to leave the team this offseason, while Suh is ready to hit the open market in March. I have a feeling he’s set on seeing what’s out there instead of taking a deal with the Lions, as they clearly can’t give him what he would seek- and most likely get- on the open market.
So far this season, Suh has recorded eight tackles and a sack after dominating with 48 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and six batted passes last year. One of the best playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, Suh has been terrific against the run this year, which used to be a glaring weakness in his game.
