Eric Decker Injury: New York Jets WR expects to play, snaps could be limited

New York Jets star wide receiver Eric Decker suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s Week 2 loss against the Green Bay Packers, and while he stated that he didn’t aggravate the injury last week, he did have to leave the team’s Monday Night Football loss to the Chicago Bears. It looked like the Jets and Decker rushed his return too quickly, and that’s a bit concerning given how nasty hamstring aggravations can get for wide receivers. Decker is an incredibly important player to the Jets success as their clear-cut No. 1 receiver, so they have to make sure he’s healthy down the road.

  • According to the New York Daily News’s Manish Mehta, Decker still expects to play today against Darius Slay and the Detroit Lions, but Mehta isn’t sure how many snaps the wideout will get. Jets head coach Rex Ryan stated recently that the team will limit him “a little bit” in order to ease him back from a soft-tissue injury. But how much is “a little bit”?

I think fantasy owners should bench Eric Decker if they have solid wide receiver options on their bench, because even though it looks like he’ll be out there, we aren’t sure how limited he’ll be. But if Decker is your best option by a significant margin, then start him and go for it against the Lions pass defense. There’s too much risk here, though, to make me feel safe in him as a fantasy play this week.
