The Tennessee Titans were never expected to have starting quarterback Jake Locker active today against the rival Indianapolis Colts, as he suffered a wrist injury last week and didn’t make nearly enough progress throughout the week to warrant the start. Charlie Whitehurst will be taking snaps under center today, as he is more experienced than rookie Zach Mettenberger, who isn’t ready to start yet but has the upside that makes him worth monitoring closely in the future for the Titans.

Locker has been officially listed as inactive for today’s game against the Colts so we’ll see if Whitehurst can run an efficient offense against a porous Colts secondary. He hasn’t attempted a pass since 2011, but he at least has two reliable targets on his hands in possession receiver Kendall Wright, who is a very precise route-runner, and steady tight end Delanie Walker.
Speaking of Walker, the 30-year-old TE is active today, which is great news for the Titans. He was always expected to play, as he returned to practice on Thursday and Friday after nursing a shoulder injury. Walker has 17 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns this season.
