Jermichael Finley not expected to play this year, Baltimore Ravens had interest

Former Green Bay Packers star tight end Jermichael Finley received interest from a few teams in the offseason after suffering a career-threatening neck injury the previous year, but he was apparently unable to show teams that he was healthy. The Packers showed interest in re-signing Finley, while marquee contenders such as the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, and, most notably, the Seattle Seahawks also took looks at the talented “move” TE.

  • Per league sources close to CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora, there is just about no chance of Jermichael Finley trotting out onto a football field this season (these sources told La Canfora that they are “99 percent certain” of it). La Canfora reports that if Finley can’t pass a physical with an NFL team in “about a month”, then he’ll sign that famed $10 million insurance money and take the cash. If he does this, then he isn’t playing this year.

At this point, we should fully expect Finley to end up signing the policy and cashing in, but his future beyond that remains uncertain. Per league sources close to La Canfora, Finley is still unsurprisingly generating interest around the league, as pass-catching hungry teams and contenders could use a tight end with Finley’s upside on a low-risk, cheap, one-year deal if he can prove his health.

The Baltimore Ravens have, La Canfora reports, been one of the teams to show interest in the former Packers star, as they lost Dennis Pitta to another season-ending hip injury, and offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak sure loves his tight ends, especially ones that can move around the formation.
