Aaron Rodgers earns NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the game’s premier signal-caller, and he has a great chance to lead the NFL’s most powerful offense this year, especially if the offensive line can do a credible job of blocking for him and star RB Eddie Lacy, who has found almost no running room so far this year. Against the Jared Allen-less Chicago Bears, Rodgers never felt the heat, and he thus had an incredibly easy day picking apart an overmatched Bears secondary by completing 22 of 28 passes for 302 yards, yielding an impressive 10.8 yards per attempt.

Although Rodgers was always expected to carve up the Bears defense, he did it in impeccable fashion, showing off his rocket arm and intuitive anticipation for throwing wide receivers open. Rodgers hooked up with star wideouts Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson to great effect, and he had an absolutely wicked toss called back due to a penalty.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Rodgers deserved this award, as he marched the Packers up and down the field with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. Coming into the game, the star QB praised rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller and used the old Charles Tillman comparison, but the talented Virginia Tech product clearly didn’t give him any issues.

If Rodgers continues to get plenty of time to throw, then you can only imagine how scary this offense will be, especially once the running game gets going. It isn’t often when a team has the league’s best QB paired up with a top-ten running back with a top-ten and top-20 receiver to throw it to, and the star quartet of the Packers offense is a joy to watch.
