New York Jets Rumors: Jace Amaro to get more playing time?
New York Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro was expected to have a rocky transition to the NFL after coming out of a college that ran an offense that was far from pro-style, and this was reflected in his subpar displays during training camp and the preseason. Fortunately for the Jets, Amaro has caught on quickly during the regular season, outperforming early expectations by being a factor in his past two games. Amaro put together a very tidy display in last week’s loss to the Detroit Lions, hauling in five passes for 58 yards.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg hinted that Amaro could receive an expanded role in the offense, and I’m sure many Jets fans hope that the talented TE is rewarded accordingly. He’s a matchup nightmare due to his massive size and athletic ability that makes him a good “move” tight end.
Amaro has strength and the upside to be a good blocker, but we never saw that in the college or the preseason. Though this is a small sample size, Amaro has been solid in this regard thus far, and he deserves to receive more than 20 or so snaps per game, especially with David Nelson gone. Amaro has talent, he can move the chains, he can learn from these reps, and it would be nice to have more points to evaluate his blocking and route-running (among other things) with the help of added in-game reps. Moreover, playing Amaro will give the Jets a better chance at winning on Sundays, and that’s undoubtedly the first thing on Rex Ryan’s mind.
