Joique Bell, Theo Riddick ruled out
The Detroit Lions will head into Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills thin at the running back position, as both Joique Bell and Theo Riddick were not expected to play in this week’s tilt. According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Michael Rothstein, this is indeed the case, as both players have been officially ruled out, meaning Reggie Bush will be tasked with carrying the running game. It will be interesting to see if George Winn, who has shown promise at times during the offseason including when he was first signed as a UDFA by the New England Patriots, gets some carries in there against Buffalo.

Bell suffered a concussion last week against the New York Jets after receiving ten touches, and he didn’t practice at all this week after being cleared for activity. The Lions never planned on playing him, and I’d like to give Jim Caldwell and the organization a ton of credit for playing things safe with Bell; they haven’t even pretended like he has a shot at playing either.
Riddick was listed probable in the lead-up to last week’s Jets game, as he was a late addition to the injury report with a hamstring injury. Looking back, the Lions should have held him out, because he aggravated the injury and never practiced this week. Even though it was Bell who suffered the concussion, Riddick had an even lower chance at playing.
