San Francisco 49ers star tight end Vernon Davis missed the Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals with a nasty ankle injury, though he did try to act as if there was a chance of him being able to suit up. Davis did make his return this past week in the win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but he, unfortunately, picked up a new injury after taking a huge hit from Eagles veteran linebacker DeMeco Ryans. The 30-year-old was dealing with back spasms in the aftermath of the game, and it looks like he won’t play tomorrow against the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to the 49ers official site , Davis told reporters yesterday that there’s a “small chance” he’ll be able to suit up against the Chiefs, but this sounds an awful lot like the talk regarding his status prior to Week 3 when he didn’t have a realistic shot at playing. Unlike that week, however, Davis is “only” listed questionable compared to his doubtful listing for that Cardinals game.
Fantasy owners will have to watch Davis’s status closely tomorrow, but nobody should be expecting him to play. The “small chance” talk is likely an effort from Davis to leave the door open, because it honestly looks like we’re going to see Vance McDonald and fellow young gun Derek Carrier lead the way for the 49ers at TE.
