Lou Holtz butchers Ameer Abdullah’s name

Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Ameer Abdullah is a bona fide Heisman candidate, a future high pick in the NFL Draft, and a household name, but ESPN analyst Lou Holtz still can’t manage to pronounce Abdullah’s name correctly. In fact, he wasn’t even close, as it sounds like he referred to him as “Ameer Muhammad” instead of “Ameer Abdullah”, but I can’t quite tell what Holtz was going for. Have a listen for yourself, courtesy of SB Nation’s always-sharp Twitter account.

Abdullah racked up over 200 rushing yards against Illinois last week, and the No. 19 Huskers will take on the No. 10 Michigan State Spartans and star quarterback Connor Cook today in what should be an excellent game.

So far this season, Abdullah has amassed a whopping 833 yards and eight touchdowns on 114 attempts, meaning that he is averaging 7.3 yards per carry. NFL scouts are salivating over his potential, and he is one of several talented RBs in the first-round discussion, though only Todd Gurley seems like a future first-round lock at the position. Abdullah is a sensational player in his own right with an excellent nose for the end zone and elite vision and anticipation (two traits we often use to describe QBs, but they are also important at RB).
