Tavon Austin Injury: St. Louis Rams WR set to return
St. Louis Rams second-year wideout Tavon Austin has missed two games this season with a sprained MCL that he suffered early in the team’s Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his initial timetable for a return was stamped at two weeks. It looks like he’ll meet that timetable, as Austin was able to practice every day this past week and was listed questionable on the injury report. Despite practicing every day, the explosive Rams WR was still in some doubt due to the knee injury, but he’ll be able to push through it today against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Rams will have Austin back in the fold, and it will be interesting to see how well the West Virginia product does in his first game back from the injury. Austin is trying to make good on his huge draft pedigree, and he wasn’t able to accomplish that last season. He dropped too many passes, didn’t look like an NFL-quality route-runner, and wasn’t able to turn bubble screens into customary big gains with his blazing speed. Austin did, however, progress as the year went on, especially when it came to making big plays on special teams.
It’s clear that the Eagles defense is in better shape this year with Malcolm Jenkins playing at a high level after wasting away for the New Orleans Saints, and Austin could end up being a non-factor if he spends too much time matched up on star nickel CB Brandon Boykin.
