Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has been pressured more often than usual due to all of the injuries on the offensive line in front of him, and he’s been relying on his deep group of weapons to bail him out, especially statistically. Foles has been a disappointment this season after his incredibly efficient breakout season in 2013, as he has completed under 60% of his passes this year with an average of just 6.8 yards per attempt to go with the five interceptions. The Eagles prevailed over the St. Louis Rams in a close one yesterday, but Foles averaged a pitiful 5.6 yards per attempt a week after putting up 4.5 Y/A with two picks and no TDs.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly stated that Foles has been throwing the ball off his back foot too often this year, but he added that this is a “fixable” issue. Kelly is correct on both counts, and getting more stable blocking will help Foles cut down on the number of times he’s gone into panic mode and displayed shoddy mechanics, such as poor footwork.
Foles’s only good performance came in Week 3 against the dreadful Washington Redskins pass defense, and it seems like he hasn’t looked confident. Blocking isn’t all of it, as plenty of it is on him. His pass-catchers have done an excellent job of making plays, but he can’t continue to ask them to turn ducks into yards.
