Former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans return specialist Trindon Holliday was released by the New York Giants yesterday, as the Giants agreed to an injury settlement with the 28-year-old, who was placed on the injured reserve in August. He’s finally healthy and ready to contribute to another team, and he could give someone a huge boost in field position with his explosive return ability.

  • Per a source close to the National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson, Holliday worked out for the Chicago Bears earlier today, and the fit makes plenty of sense on paper. The Bears could use his game-breaking play on special teams, and they, like with Devin Hester, don’t need to ask anything of him in the passing game.

Although Holliday had at least one kick-off and punt return touchdown in both of his seasons with the Broncos, he did show a proclivity towards putting the ball on the ground. It’s never an opportune time to fumble the football away, but Holliday’s issues seemed to have the added negative effect at coming at the worst possible moments. That said, the good generally outweighs the bad with Holliday, who is a beastly difference-maker in the game’s third phase.

Holliday would command a one-year deal at the veteran minimum, which is the type of deal fellow wideout Santonio Holmes was signed to when he joined the Bears this offseason.
