1. Green Bay Packers: 361 Points

Top Three QBs: Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Bart Starr

The greatest quarterback franchise of the Super Bowl Era is the Green Bay Packers. They’ve featured three elite quarterbacks in the 48-year era. Because of that, they come in ranked at No. 1 in the league. Bart Starr, like Johnny Unitas, played ten years before the Super Bowl Era even began — that must be kept in mind. Even so, he was a two-time Super Bowl champion (winning the first two) and a two-time Super Bowl MVP. He was won an AP MVP, was named to one Pro Bowl and was All-Pro once. But the surface of the Packers’ greatness at the quarterback position, in the Super Bowl Era, has barely been scratched. Favre was one of the most dominant passers of all-time, statistically speaking. He won three AP MVPs, one Super Bowl, was named All-Pro three times, and went to nine Pro Bowls. He also passed for 30 touchdowns eight times, 4,000 yards five times, and won 160 games for the green and gold. But the dominance at the position doesn’t end there.

Green Bay’s current signal caller, Rodgers, has racked up the best ‘points-per-year’ percentage of all three quarterbacks. He’s won one Super Bowl, one Super Bowl MVP, and one AP MVP award. He’s also been named All-Pro once, and went to three Pro Bowls. His four 4,000-yard passing seasons and 40 touchdown pass season certainly do not hurt Green Bay’s point total either. On top of that, he’s also the best runner of the trio and ran for five touchdowns one year. With Rodgers, the Packers are poised to have some of the best quarterback play for the foreseeable future. Their lead in points, as the greatest quarterback franchise, should only continue to rise.

To put the Packers’ success at the position into perspective they’re the only franchise to have three different quarterbacks win both a Super Bowl and an AP MVP award. All three of these players will be Hall of Fame inductees (Starr already is, Favre next year). Despite not winning the most Super Bowls (they’ve won four, the Steelers have won six) they still come out on top in this ranking. Realistically, the Packers are the greatest quarterback franchise in NFL history stretching back before the Super Bowl Era, too. As the Packers boast Arnie Herber, a Hall of Fame quarterback from the 1930s and 40s. If you’re counting, that’s four Hall of Fame busts that Green Bay will have in Canton at the quarterback position exactly five years after Rodgers hangs ’em up. Enjoy your newest title, Titletown.

As long as the NFL is around this list will continue to change, most likely yearly. As new quarterbacks emerge as elite and older quarterbacks retire this list will evolve. Some good quarterbacks will be bumped for their franchise’s ‘top three’ in time. Will the Packers retain their title forever? Or will the 49ers, Colts, or another franchise steal their spot? Time will tell, all we have to do is sit back and watch!
