San Diego Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers has been a revelation since signing for the team, and the Chargers clearly came away with one of the bargains of the offseason and managed to stick it to the rival Kansas City Chiefs. Although Flowers earned a Pro Bowl bid last year, he actually struggled playing in Bob Sutton press-man defense, and the defensive coordinator stubbornly wouldn’t play his best CB to his more finesse strengths. Flowers became untenable due to his lack of performance (which was, in turn, due to a poor fit in the Chiefs new coverage scheme), so they dumped him off, and he has no become one of the most valuable players on the Chargers.

Unfortunately, the Chargers could be without one of their star players, as Flowers has went down with a left leg injury in today’s game against the rival Oakland Raiders. According to the Oakland Tribune’s Jerry McDonald, Flowers has been “down for a long time”, and it’s clear that the team’s No. 1 CB is in a great deal of pain.
We can only hope that this isn’t a significant injury, but we’ve seen the likes of Alex Mack, Stevan Ridley, and Jerod Mayo go down with tough injuries today, so we can only fear for the worst. Flowers has recorded two picks and five passes defended to go with some lockdown coverage, so it would be a shame for him to miss any sort of time.
