A.J. Green Injury: Bengals WR will not play

facebooktwitterreddit

Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green aggravated a toe injury at practice earlier this week, and he’s never been expected to play in today’s game against the Carolina Panthers after word broke out that the injury could be a multi-week issue. Despite the fact that nobody expects him to play, the Bengals have tried their best to keep some level of uncertainty regarding his status, particularly since he is so vital to their success; they need to keep the Panthers guessing on his chances of playing.

  • Green was officially listed as questionable on the Bengals injury report, but we’ve received more confirmation today that he won’t be playing. ESPN’s Bob Holtzman, who first reported that Green wouldn’t play today, stated on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown”  that two sources told him that the star wideout will indeed miss today’s game (report comes by way of Pro Football Talk’s Mike Wilkening).

Holtzman reports that Green is still sporting a walking boot, and it sounds like he wasn’t even on the field for pre-game warm-ups either. His status for Week 7 should be regarded as highly questionable at this point, though, of course, it’s still too early to tell. So far this season, Green has 17 receptions for 314 yards and two TDs, averaging nearly 80 yards per game.
