DeMarco Murray Changes the Cowboys Identity

If you had told me that DeMarco Murray would rush 29 times for 115 yards yesterday against the Seattle Seahawks at Century Link Field I would have told you that you were nuts. But he did as we all saw yesterday in the Cowboys stunning win against the Seahawks, with a final score of 30-23. So this leaves two things certain: Jerry Jones is the happiest he’s been since 2007 and by relying heavily on the run game, DeMarco Murray changes the Cowboys identity.
5-1 is a big deal for the Dallas Cowboys, who haven’t really been in contention or relative in several years. We all remember the ’90s and the glory of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders and the Super Bowl wins. Sure the team has QB Tony Romo and WR Dez Bryant in their star power offense, but DeMarco Murray is the man right now in Dallas. And the Cowboys have him to thank for many of their big wins, by leaning heavily on the run game this season. And why not? When he’s not hurt, Murray is unstoppable. Case in point, six straight games with a 100+ rushing yards. (LeSean McCoy, who?) This year, it’s all about No. 29 on America’s favorite team… which coincidentally are America’s least favorite team.

Better yet, Murray kept his cool after the game dodging reporters who were itching for a post game interview. We all know that actions speak louder than words, and I can’t help but respect Murray for staying tightlipped. In a contract year, Murray is already on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s 1984 since season rushing yard record of 2,105. Jerry Jones is as happy as a clam, and Murray need not worry to see a big pay day in his future for keeping the King of Cowboys happy.
So the question is: If DeMarco Murray was able to run like he did yesterday against the league’s best run defense, who’d only allowed running backs no more than an average of 62 yards per game this season, imagine what he could do for the rest of the season? Does anyone think we’ll be seeing the Dallas Cowboys at University of Phoenix Stadium come February?
