Cincinnati Bengals superstar wide receiver A.J. Green aggravated a toe injury last week during practice and was never expected to play in yesterday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, so the Bengals were forced to use Mohamed Sanu as their No. 1 wideout. Although the Bengals tied 37-37, it was, as the scoreline suggests, through no fault of the offense, though a tie isn’t necessarily a negative result. Hue Jackson’s offense was clicking, as the offensive coordinator made up for Green’s absence, with Giovani Bernard, Andy Dalton, and Sanu all forging solid days.

Although Marvin Jones’s return still seems off in the distance, the more important Bengals wide receiver could be back sooner. According to Bengals official site beat writer Geoff Hobson, head coach Marvin Lewis stated that Green could be able to play in this week’s game against the Indianapolis Colts and star cornerback Vontae Davis.
Green’s return would be huge against another playoff-caliber opponent, but the Bengals will probably play it safe with arguably their most important player. They can’t afford him to be out for an extended period of time or to suffer another aggravation, but I’m sure there’s a strong desire to have him out there for such an important contest. To be safe, Green should be expected to miss this week’s game, but his status will be evaluated closely each day.
