Seattle Seahawks Byron Maxwell out 1-2 weeks

Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Byron Maxwell has been a revelation ever since moving into the starting lineup late last year, as he blossomed into one of the league’s elite corners by playing at a shutdown level during the 2013 playoffs. He’s picked up where he left off this year, but worries cropped up when he left yesterday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys in the second quarter with an ankle injury. Richard Sherman shadowed Cowboys elite wideout Dez Bryant with Maxwell gone from the other side. After the game, it was reported that Maxwell had suffered a high-ankle sprain, but, thankfully, that isn’t the case.

  • The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Seahawks talented No. 2 CB merely has a calf injury that is expected to cause him to miss 1-2 weeks. That’s a relief, as high-ankle sprains call for a timeline double that amount, so the ‘Hawks will only miss him for games against the St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers. Those are two opponents they don’t need Maxwell for in order to beat, so the Seahawks, who are always deep at CB, can afford to play things safe with one of their star players.

Maxwell has 26 tackles, one pick, and an impressive five passes defended on the season thus far, so the 1-2 week calf injury is a mere blip that won’t effect the positive momentum of his season thus far.
