5. His Numbers
First and foremost, when it comes to winning the AP MVP ridiculous numbers have to be posted. It’s just the way it is and it makes sense doesn’t it? As far as ridiculous numbers go, consider this. Murray has began the year with six consecutive 100-yard games, and is the first player to do so since arguably the greatest running back of them all Jim Brown did so over 50 years ago. He’s on pace for 2,093 rushing yards this year. Only seven running backs have ever ran for over 2,000 yards in a season in the entire history of the NFL. What’s more impressive about his numbers this year is that he hasn’t broken off any really long runs helping his average and total yards go up. He’s literally earning every yard as his longest run is 44 yards. His production isn’t a fluke or a product of facing bad defenses — Murray is a true workhorse.
He’s also on pace to score at least 16 touchdowns as he’s currently averaging a touchdown a game. If anything I expect him to exceed the 16 touchdown mark when the weather worsens and old-time cold weather football comes around. Four of the Cowboys’ final six games are outside and on the road against the Giants, Bears, Eagles, and ‘Skins. Expect a healthy dose of running in those games when the cold wind is swirling above. Also, don’t be surprised to see his numbers rise.
