2. Other MVP Candidates Aren’t Separating From The Pack
Sure there are some elite quarterbacks in the game today putting up amazing numbers like Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning, and Andrew Luck. But those players aren’t exactly standing out among each other. They’re all doing absolutely great, but their numbers are comparable to one another. When it comes to running back, no one is coming close to what Murray is currently doing. He’s far and away the best player at his position right now and he’s leading his team to victory (five straight) over some great teams. The next closest running backs, statistically, to Murray are Le’Veon Bell and Arian Foster. Bell is averaging just 90.3 yards per game and has only scored once. Foster is averaging an impressive 102.6 yards per game and has five touchdowns, but his team has three losses. Murray is averaging 130.8 yard per game, with six touchdowns, on a team with only one loss.
Murray’s biggest competition for the MVP in my eyes are Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, and surprisingly enough defensive end J.J. Watt. Rodgers is heating up and has thrown for 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Packers’ last three games (all wins), and Luck has thrown for a league-leading 17 touchdowns, but has thrown seven interceptions, too. Watt is a freak of a football player and has scored three touchdowns already (two more than Le’Veon Bell) and has amassed four sacks. But Murray is the one that’s led his team to a 5-1 record. At this point, he really has separated himself.
