1. The Cowboys Are Contenders

Whether it’s flawed logic or not the MVP almost always comes from a team that qualified for the playoffs. It has been this way for decades and it’s not going to change anytime soon. Since the Cowboys are contenders, at 5-1 they surely are, they’re going to continue to garner an insane amount of attention. They are “America’s Team” after all (cue groans from the rest of the country). As this attention builds, it will also build for Murray’s MVP ‘campaign.’ Get used to hearing ‘MVP, MVP’ chants at Cowboys games as the season rolls one when Murray touches the ball. This team is, finally, for real. It seems like for years the Cowboys have had the talent to compete, but have just continually underachieved. Thanks to Murray, it looks like they’ve turned the corner.

The entire offense is clicking and it starts with Murray. Defenses have to account for him, so it opens the door for Tony Romo to throw downfield. Romo is in the midst of putting together one of his finest seasons as a pro and he’s on pace to secure the second-best rating of his career with 11 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions so far. This offense has found a rhythm beyond Murray, too, with second-year pro Terrance Williams complimenting Dez Bryant at the wide receiver position. These two, along with tight end Jason Witten, have formed a great receiving cast for Romo. With defenses focusing on Murray these players have been able to thrive. Once defenses begin to focus on stopping this passing attack Murray will gash them for yards on the ground. Because of this balance on offense the Cowboys will remain contenders and because of that, Murray is going to take home the MVP. He’ll be the fifth running back to do so since 2000.
