T.Y. Hilton earns NFL Spin Zone Player of the Week

facebooktwitterreddit

The Thursday Night Football battle between the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans showcased three of the best individual performances of the week, as Arian Foster put on another vintage display on the ground, J.J. Watt bossed the Colts offensive line in the Texans near-comeback, and Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton roasted the opposition. Hilton is capable of producing some jaw-dropping performances with his playmaking ability, and he asserted himself as the clear-cut best weapon on the Colts loaded offense. Watt gave Hilton a run for his money, but the Colts pulled out the victory, and Hilton’s numbers were just too good to ignore.

  • Thrown at nine times by star quarterback Andrew Luck, Hilton caught all nine of those passes for 223 yards and a touchdown, putting in work on D.J. Swearinger, Kareem Jackson, and Jonathan Joseph. All three of those defensive backs felt the wrath of the Colts No. 1 wide receiver, and he did some especially impressive work against the touted Joseph. His 33-yard TD to give the Colts a decisive lead in the third quarter came in Swearinger’s coverage, but over half of his receiving yards came in Joseph’s coverage.

Hilton averaged a scintillating 24.8 yards per reception, meaning that he also averaged an otherworldly 24.8 yards per target, since not a single pass thrown his way fell incomplete. Moreover, the young playmaker accounted for about 60% of Luck’s 370 passing yards, as no other pass-catcher hit 50 receiving yards (Dwayne Allen came close with 49 of them to his credit).

147 of Hilton’s 223 receiving yards came in the Colts 24-point first quarter, and it’s clear that he’s the focal point of this team’s offense. There aren’t many better playmakers in the entire game, and he’s easily Luck’s best target. Not only is Hilton a fantastic playmaker who can take it to the house on any given play, but he’s also pretty darn reliable, which is tough to say for most explosive WRs.
