Marvin Jones placed on injured reserve

The Cincinnati Bengals signed former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Greg Little as depth today in lieu of injuries to A.J. Green and Marvin Jones, and the prevailing belief was that the Bengals believe one of the two wideouts will miss this week’s game (perhaps both) against the Indianapolis Colts. Jones has not seen the field at all this season, and some speculated that he could go under the knife and miss the rest of the season after showing absolutely no signs of progress. It’s been a discouraging year for Jones, as injuries have prevented what should have been a breakout campaign for the talented youngster. Meanwhile, Green has a shot at playing against the Colts, but he is tentatively expected to be held out another week after aggravating a toe injury.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Coley Harvey, the Bengals have officially placed Marvin Jones on the injured reserve, ending his season, as tight end Tyler Eifert is already on the short-term IR. It’s disappointing news, but it isn’t surprising, especially since his trip to the injured reserve comes after he met with a specialist in North Carolina following the Bengals 37-37 tie with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Per Harvey, the Bengals have released Colin Lockett from the practice squad and signed Cobi Hamilton, and they have also waived Khairi Fortt. More news regarding a possible surgery and the extent of Jones’s injury will likely be divulged shortly.
