The Cincinnati Bengals placed Marvin Jones on the injured reserve yesterday after it was found out that the No. 2 wideout would need surgery in order to repair his injured ankle, and the Bengals promptly brought in former Cleveland Browns WR Greg Little to replenish the lost depth at the position. But the Bengals also worked out another notable name in former Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks draft pick Terrelle Pryor, and there was some speculation that the former supplemental draft selection was worked out by the Bengals as possible wide receiver depth.

According to Yahoo! Sports’s Rand Getlin, who reported news of the Pryor workout yesterday, the Bengals actually worked out Pryor as a quarterback, since the former Ohio State star still has no intentions of changing positions. His lack of interest in switching positions surprises nobody, but it continues to hurt his chances of sticking around as a developmental project.
I’m sure the possibility of adding Pryor sounds intriguing to ace offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, but the Bengals simply don’t have space to add him. Maybe more importantly for some, Pryor was cut by the Seattle Seahawks during the 53-man roster crunchdown, and they actually traded for him from the Raiders in order to see if they could development. If the Seahawks, the league’s best team at developing talent, released Pryor, then where does that leave him? That release could be seen as a damning statement, but Pryor is so talented that he completely deserves a speculative look in a workout.
