Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green missed last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers after first aggravating his toe injury during the practice week, and he never practiced this week either. Green was an obvious inactive for today’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, but the more troubling thing is that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis labeled his superstar wideout as “week to week”, making it sound like Green, who was listed doubtful, is unlikely to play in the team’s Week 8 rivalry matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Bengals would sorely miss him if he can’t play against Jimmy Smith, Lardarius Webb, Will Hill, and the talented Ravens secondary. However, the good news is that the NFL Network’s Albert Breer and Ian Rapoport are reporting that Green has a “shot” at playing next week. Lewis tried to say that Green had a “shot” at playing today, but the report from these two top-notch NFL Insiders has much more credence.
Per Breer and Rapoport, Green visited with the renowned Dr. Robert Anderson on Friday in North Carolina and had a “positive” prognosis. It’s great to hear that Green is doing better, but we won’t know enough about his status until we check how often he is able to practice next week. Until then, the Bengals have to hope that Giovani Bernard and Mohamed Sanu can put together another big game.
