Cecil Shorts visited rapid-recovery specialist in order to play
Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Cecil Shorts dealt with a nagging hamstring injury for most of the regular season, and his inability to get healthy for a few weeks led to more concerns about his knack for these kinds of ailments. Shorts returned to the field last week against the Tennessee Titans, and Blake Bortles promptly peppered his most talented wide receiver, whom Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine called one of the most underrated in the NFL, yielding Shorts a 10-catch performance for 103 yards in the loss.

Shorts will face a tougher matchup today against the Browns, but the great news is that he’s finally healthy. Last night, the Florida Times Union’s Hays Carlyon reported that Shorts visited a rapid-recovery specialist in Minnesota. The 26-year-old credits Josh Sandell, a former chiropractor for the USA in the 2010 Winter Olympics, with helping him get ready for last week’s game, as he received treatments on Monday and Tuesday before returning to practice.
With an average of just 9.6 yards per attempt, Shorts hasn’t been able to make as many plays downfield as usual, but we’ll see if that number moves up. It looks like Shorts, Allen Robinson, and Marqise Lee will be Bortles’s top three targets (in that order) going forward, and it seems like only Robinson doesn’t have significant injury concerns.
