Vincent Jackson Trade Rumors: Buccaneers getting interest

facebooktwitterreddit

Blockbuster deals don’t happen often in the NFL, so the trade that sent Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks to the New York Jets on Friday was even more of a bombshell because of it, but I’m wondering if we could see more deals than usual ahead of the October 28th trade deadline. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that there’s another star wide receiver making the rounds in trade rumors, as teams have called up the Tampa Bay Buccaneers about Vincent Jackson, who would be a massive catch (literally and figuratively) for teams in need of wide receiver help.

  • Rapoport reports that while the Buccaneers obviously love having V-Jax, aggressive GM Jason Licht is wiling to explore all options that will help the team. Jackson is 31 and set to make around $10 million each year until his contract runs out in 2017, so it will be interesting to see if the Bucs can get a draft pick that matches the caliber of a player Jackson is. The fact that he is under team control for plenty of years helps, but his contract and age devalue his star talent.

The Jackson rumors will be interesting to watch for in the coming two weeks, as he has 25 receptions for 344 yards and two touchdowns despite not having a top quarterback throwing him the ball. If the Bucs trade Jackson, then the passing offense would seemingly run through two talented rookies in Mike Evans and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
