Jadeveon Clowney doubtful to play
Houston Texans No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney has highlighted tonight’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers as his return date from a torn meniscus he suffered in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, but it doesn’t look like that will be a case. Clowney, who is listed questionable on the Texans injury report, is a true game-time decision today, and that hasn’t changed. He has always been considered a true, 50-50 toss-up tonight, based on comments made by head coach Bill O’Brien, who is being cautious with the team’s major investment. If Clowney doesn’t play today, then that means he will have been on the shelf for longer than his expected timeline, but that’s perfectly fine.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Texans have indeed made it their “goal” to have Clowney available against the Steelers for this Monday Night Football matchup, but he adds that the former South Carolina star is “not ready” to make his return. Per Rapoport, we should consider Clowney doubtful to play, though, as expected, the Texans will allow him to test his knee out before the start of the game.
The Texans received a monstrous performance from Whitney Mercilus against the Indianapolis Colts, as he was a great complement to J.J. Watt, who has arguably been the best player in the NFL again this year. Mercilus shows flashes of dominance, but the former college superstar has failed to be a consistent pass rushing force in this league.
