Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker missed yesterday’s 19-17 loss to the Washington Redskins with a thumb injury after being listed questionable, and it was clear that the Titans didn’t want to risk anything with their former first-round pick. The injury-prone Washington product is on his last legs in the league, because he hasn’t proved to be either consistently healthy or consistently effective despite flashes of brilliance and composure. His arm strength and return to health, however, will give the Titans a boost on offense, as it will open things up more, especially for fellow UW product and rookie running back Bishop Sankey.

According to TitanInsider.com’s Terry McCormick, Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt stated that Locker was actually sore on Friday, which led to some concern regarding his status going forward. He isn’t out of the woods yet and isn’t guaranteed to return, but it feels like we should expect him to play against the Houston Texans this week. Per Whisenhunt, Locker will throw tomorrow, and the Titans will assess how healthy he is.
Titans outside linebacker Shaun Phillips is dealing with a hip injury that he suffered yesterday against the Redskins, and McCormick reports that the veteran will have an MRI today to determine the extent of the damage. Hopefully it’s not a significant injury, but we don’t have any concrete details at this moment in time. Phillips has 15 tackles and one sack a season after recording ten sacks for the Denver Broncos in his first season outside of San Diego.
