Martellus Bennett back at practice

Chicago Bears talented tight end Martellus Bennett didn’t seem to suffer any sort of injury in the team’s Week 7 loss to the Miami Dolphins, as he caught five passes for 58 yards on eight targets without exiting the game. The high volume of targets combined with the lack of a noticeable injury caused eyebrows to be raised when Bennett was not spotted at practice yesterday. He was listed as a non-participant with a hamstring injury, but he expected to practice today and be ready for this week’s marquee matchup against the New England Patriots.

  • According to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, Bennett returned to practice today on a limited  basis, so his hamstring injury isn’t going to be an issue going forward, barring a setback (which isn’t impossible given the nature of hamstring injuries). Bennett is on track to be a “full go” against the Patriots, and he’ll have a big role to play as a pass-catcher and could do well as a blocker.

Bennett caught a ridiculous 29 passes in the first four games of the season, and he has hauled in at least 50 receiving yards in each of his past two games. Although he’s cooled off and hasn’t scored a touchdown since his four-TD barrage in the first three games of the year, Bennett is still playing well; he’s one of the league’s most individually talented TEs from both a pass-catching and blocking perspective.
