Jay Cutler denies report of Brandon Marshall rant
The Chicago Bears are reeling after a 27-14 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week, but they survived a minor injury scare to tight end Martellus Bennett and also learned that crucial rookie corner Kyle Fuller doesn’t need surgery. Although their defense continues to be a weak point, the Bears should get back on track shortly, especially as they get healthier on defense. They have a tough battle ahead of them this week against the New England Patriots, but star quarterback Jay Cutler has downplayed the reports of locker room strife.

According to the NFL Network’s Albert Breer, Cutler said of Marshall, “He didn’t come near me, he didn’t see my name, I don’t think he attacked anyone personally.”
I’m sure plenty of people will be skeptical about the truth of this statement, since I don’t think a quarterback would “sell out” a star player, even if those remarks were directed at said quarterback. Marshall has been Cutler’s favorite target since their days with the Denver Broncos, so the larger point is clear: don’t read too much into this. The Bears offense is the last thing anybody should be worried about, because they most likely just had an off game last week. Cutler shredded the Atlanta Falcons awful D up the prior week, so the focus should be on a defense that had no answer for Ryan Tannehill.
